ICL players are fast becoming pariahs of international cricket, as national boards and counties are pressured not to acknowledge the so-called rebel tournament or anyone associated with it. The BCCI, for example, did not release Harbhajan Singh to Surrey so long as they had an ICL player, such as Saqlain, on their books.
The IPL, however, is officially recognised by the ICC, and Surrey have made it absolutely clear The Oval would make a perfect venue to host IPL games.
"We are not prepared to go into next season with an ICL player," chief executive Paul Sheldon told the BBC. "Clubs are not being encouraged to be associated with ICL players and it’s our policy not to be. We are talking to Saqlain about how we can come to some arrangement because he can’t get out of his ICL contract."
Now that Surrey have severed their ICL links, Sheldon added Surrey could re-sign the Indian offspinner, Harbhajan, who now is likely to be granted a no-objection certificate from the Indian board.

Now that KKR’s campaign is over (I’m leading the Interblogactic IPL Battle table, btw), I can finally concentrate on the team I really support - the Mumbai Indians. They have been the standout team this season, leading the table from the start and not losing grip. This has been mainly due to the the players they acquired pre-season and their backing of the Indian players. Dhawan has be...
Badrinath’s valiant effort came to naught, thanks to Harbhajan’s heroics - a long time since the Sardar took five wickets in any format. Rohit Sharma had given a good platform for the Mumbai bowlers which proved to be beyond CSK’s reach. The last ’up’ in the graph showing the effect Harbhajan’s last over had on the match.

They are part-owned by one of the most celebrated and wealthiest stars in the history or Indian cinema (who, mind, waits for the TV cameras to zoom in on him before blowing air kisses to nobody in particular - seriously, I like SRK, but that’s just really sad). They have undoubtedly the best PR machinery of all the teams in the competition. However, they are proving absolutely incompetent at...
